Polis Thailand guna gas pemedih mata surai bantahan

BANGKOK 7 Okt. — Polis pagi ini melepaskan gas pemedih mata untuk menyuraikan beratus-ratus penyokong antikerajaan yang mengepung bangunan Parlimen malam tadi dalam usaha untuk menyekat kerajaan baru pimpinan Perdana Menteri Somchai Wongsawat daripada memberikan ucapan dasar.

Kira-kira 1,500 anggota polis dikerahkan untuk menyuraikan bantahan itu pada kira-kira 6.20 pagi (7.30 pagi waktu Malaysia) dan bertempur dengan penyokong Pakatan Rakyat bagi Demokrasi (PAD) yang berpakaian serba kuning.

Beberapa orang cedera dalam pertempuran itu, termasuk seorang pemberita dan beberapa penyokong cedera parah. Pemimpin PAD telah menggesa lebih ramai penyokong menyertai bantahan di bangunan Parlimen itu.

PAD, yang menawan pusat pentadbiran negara di Bangunan Kerajaan pada 26 Ogos dan masih menduduki premis itu, mula melakukan sekatan di semua jalan menuju ke bangunan Parlimen malam tadi berikutan penahanan dua pemimpin utama mereka pada Jumaat dan Ahad.

Pada Ahad, polis menahan bekas jeneral tentera Chamlong Srimuang semasa beliau mahu mengundi pada pemilihan Gabenor Bangkok. Dua hari sebelum itu, Chaiwat Sinsuwongse menjadi pemimpin pertama ditahan.

Selepas beribu-ribu penyokong PAD menyerbu masuk ke Bangunan Kerajaan yang menempatkan Pejabat Perdana Menteri pada 26 Ogos, polis mendapat waran tangkap terhadap sembilan pemimpin utama pergerakan antikerajaan itu. Sembilan pemimpin itu menghadapi beberapa pertuduhan termasuk penderhakaan yang membawa hukuman mati jika sabit kesalahan.

Pemimpin lain PAD yang turut dikeluarkan waran tangkap ialah hartawan media Sondhi Limthongkul, Somkiart Pongpaiboon, Somsak Kosaisuk, Amorn Amornratananont, Pipop Thongchai, Suriyasai Katasila dan Therdpoom Chaidee.

PAD mula menonjol selepas ia mengetuai demonstrasi besar-besaran di ibu negara pada 2006, yang membawa kepada pihak tentera menggulingkan Perdana Menteri Thaksin Shinawatra yang kini berada dalam buangan di Britain.

Berikutan penawanan Bangunan Kerajaan, perdana menteri ketika itu Samak Sundaravej didesak meletakkan jawatan, tetapi enggan berbuat demikian sehingga beliau disingkirkan oleh Mahkamah Perlembagaan kerana muncul dalam program masakan di televisyen yang merupakan satu kesalahan mengikut Perlembagaan.

Pengganti beliau yang juga merupakan adik ipar Thaksin, Somchai Wongsawat mentadbir negara dari pejabat sementara di Lapangan Terbang Don Muang.
