LONDON 12 Mei – Perdana Menteri Britain, Gordon Brown mengumumkan peletakan jawatannya semalam bagi memberi laluan kepada pemimpin Konservatif, David Cameron untuk menggantikannya.

Pengumuman itu dibuat selepas Konservatif memuktamadkan persetujuan perkongsian kuasa dengan Parti Liberal Demokrat, lima hari selepas pilihan raya yang tidak membawa kepada sebarang keputusan.

“Saya telah memaklumkan kepada setiausaha persendirian Ratu Elizabeth II untuk menghantar surat peletakan jawatan,” kata Brown dalam satu kenyataan di Downing Street.

Beliau dan isterinya selepas itu kelihatan memandu keluar dari Downing Street ke Istana Buckingham. – AFP
