SINGAPURA: Banjir kilat ekoran hujan lebat selama dua jam di tengah-tengah bandar raya negara ini mengakibatkan keadaan kelam-kabut apabila kawasan letak kereta bawah tanah dan banyak kedai dinaiki air hari ini bermula pukul 9 pagi tadi.

The Straits Time Online melaporkan, kawasan yang paling teruk dinaiki air ialah Orchard Road dan persimpangan Scotts Road, bermula dari Paterson Road – kawasan lokasi Ion Orchard dan Menara Wheelock – sehingga kawasan Ngee Ann ditenggelami banjir setinggi hampir dua meter.

Bahagian bawah tanah Menara Liat dipenuhi air sehingga menjejaskan dan memusnahkan barangan di premis-premis seperti Starbucks dan Hermes.

Banyak kenderaan termasuk kereta terperangkap di tengah-tengah kawasan banjir selain pemilik kereta masing-masing terkandas dalam kenderaan mereka. Begitu juga penumpang-penumpang bas yang gagal ke mana-mana berikutan jalan raya yang tidak dapat dilalui.

Terdapat juga pokok-pokok tumbang di Buyong Road lokasi keluar dari Central Expressway Tunnel (CET) sehingga Ayer Rajah Expressway menyebabkan laluan tersekat. Sehubungan itu CET ditutup bagi mengelakkan kenderaan memasuki Orchard Road.

Selain itu kawasan yang turut terjejas termasuk Coronation Road West, Fourth Avenue, Kings Road, Kheam Hock Road dan Veerasamy Road menyebabkan trafik bergerak perlahan.

Agensi Alam Sekitar Kebangsaan (NEA) dalam satu kenyataan berkata, kira-kira 100 milimeter hujan turuun dalam tempoh dua jam itu.

“Jumlah hujan yang turun melebihi 60 peratus hujan yang turun secara purata dalam bulan ini,” kata agensi itu.

Agensi Air Kebangsaan (PUB), polis trafik dan pegawai Pasukan Pertahanan Awam Singapura (SCDF) ditempatkan di kawasan-kawasan terbabit bagi membantu orang ramai yang terkandas dalam bah yang melanda.

Selain itu kerugian bencana alam itu sedang disiasat.
