150 pendatang hilang bot karam di perairan Jawa Timur

JAKARTA: Lebih 150 pendatang transit dari Timur Tengah dan beberapa negara lain dilaporkan hilang selepas bot yang mereka naiki menuju ke Australia karam di perairan Jawa Timur, malam tadi. 

Kejadian berlaku kira-kira 30 batu nautika dari pantai Perigi, Trenggalek, Jawa Timur.

Sehingga tengah hari tadi, hanya 33 daripada 250 penumpang berjaya diselamatkan dan pasukan penyelamat masih berusaha mencari penumpang lain di kawasan perairan itu namun operasi menyelamat dihalang cuaca buruk dan jarak pandangan yang rendah, lapor media tempatan.

Stesen televisyen Metro TV melaporkan pendatang transit itu berasal dari Turki, Afghanistan, Arab Saudi dan Iran.

Mereka yang terselamat kini diberi rawatan di Bangunan Serbaguna Balai Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara, Pulau Perigi.

Sementara itu, pewarta agensi berita ANTARA di Trenggalek melaporkan bot milik nelayan Indonesia itu dipercayai disewa untuk menyeludup pendatang berkenaan ke Australia. – BERNAMA

Hundreds of migrants missing off Indonesia as boat sinks

TRENGGALEK, Indonesia (Reuters) – At least 217 people were missing, and possibly scores more, after an overcrowded boat packed with illegal immigrants heading for Australia sank in heavy seas off the coast of east Java in Indonesia, authorities said on Sunday.

Many of the passengers on the wooden vessel are believed to be economic migrants from countries including Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. Indonesia is a transit point for illegal immigrants from the Middle East who cross the Indian Ocean in search of a better life in Australia.

Indonesian authorities gave differing accounts of the number of people missing and the possible casualty toll.
