The Costa Concordia ship (L) seen over the Isola del Giglio houses on January 15, 2012 after the cruise ship ran aground and keeled over off the Isola del Giglio, late on January 13. A risky practice by cruise ships of close-passing the island of Giglio in a foghorn-blasting salute to the local population appears to have contributed to the Costa Concordia disaster, officials and witnesses said Sunday.

– AP
